Who is your higher self?

The higher self is the ‘you‘ inside of you—the living force that grows and changes in your body throughout your time on earth. It is the ‘you‘ behind all of the defenses and images you have created for yourself…the you that really knows why you are here, what it is you need, and how you can get it.
By transcending to your personal core, the higher self, you discover your true nature—a blissful self of infinite worth.

– from Quantum Healing by Deepak Chopra.

What do you think your higher self looks like? What if you could create a character to represent your infinite worth … what form would that character take, what would it’s qualities and characteristics be?

Light, Vast, Joy, Harmonic, Flowing, Ethereal, Omnipotent, Invulnerable, Infinite, Grace, Love.

These are the sort of words that might come to mind – though our descriptions and visions are as unique as our souls.

As the higher self is beyond ego, I doubt it needs a name … but on this human journey we use identity as a tool for personal growth … so I think it would be okay (and fun) to give our characters a name. What would yours be? Quiet your mind and see what comes. You might not want to share the name but instead write it and keep it safe as a fond personal reminder.

There are many insightful books guiding us through methods of meeting our higher selves, or higher consciousness, such as The Story of Your Soul by Elizabeth Clare Prophet, Pure by Barefoot Doctor and The Daemon by Anthony Peake. But I suspect that you have already started to visualise your higher self, to some point, just while reading this. What’s more, I imagine that you, like me, have found yourself smiling as you do so and feeling some degree of elation. We’re innately keen, on our journey of growth, to connect with our truth so it’s only natural that we become magnetised by the mere contemplation of it. We’re led not just out of curiosity but by a deeper impulse and maybe even as succor from the challenges of human life.

The point of the matter is you

After you’ve contemplated your higher self I ask you to look in the mirror and recall all the sublime things that you used to describe it. Looking yourself in the eyes say these words ‘I Am’ and know that all of those qualities describe your truth. If you feel too self conscious or cringey to say it out loud, just quietly know it because it’s true. Even if, as far as you’re concerned, the jury is still out on whether or not the presence of ‘higher self’ exists, the word ‘higher self’ can be replaced with your uninhibited potential and the conclusion is still an indicator of your true greatness. That is all you!

Before I end this email I want to share an old poem called The Miracle of You. I wrote this back in the sweetness of my late teens but it’s just as representative of what I believe today, after coming through my fair share of adversity and moments of self doubt.

Miracle of You

The magic in an ancient amethyst stone
The beauty of a fuchsia in full bloom
The eternal wonder of the moon & stars
Shares an essence that lives within you …

The eyes that saw them
The smile that wore them
The mind that dreamt them
The spirit that met them
The timeless, shining, special soul that you are

The miracle of You is never far!

One love,

Louisa
