Cygnus Advent day 8: The joy of a home made Christmas

Art and craft activities are a magical part of the winter holiday season. Children especially love decorating and making at Christmas and it can be really fun as well as money saving to give home made pressies and at Cygnus we have a lovely collection of craft books to inspire and occupy the crafty among you including the beautiful meditative mandala colouring books, paper crafts such as Angel Origami and a variety of fun Knitting and crochet books to spark your creativity.

I you want to make your own presents, home made sweets and biscuits can be wrapped beautifully so even if you aren’t a knitter or a whizzo with the sewing machine you can give thoughtful unique gifts. Try this lovely no cook fudge recipe that can be done safely with children or for a healthy option how about these raw chocolate energy balls.

Decorating your home with hand made decorations can really bring the magic of the season alive. Here’s a fun and timeless idea for something to make with children: Paper snowflakes. So simple and easy once you know how but in case you need a little help have a look at this easy to follow tutorial, and another idea that my kids love to do in winter when it’s freezing outside – decorative ice sculptures and candle holders. They will last outside as long as it’s cold enough but can also be created with the help of a freezer.

There are also an abundance of ideas for a  home made Christmas on the web.

Please let us know your ideas for home made crafts and treats for Solstice and Christmas and let us know if you have tried any of these suggestions or have made something from one of our books. Best wishes from all of us at Cygnus.
